The Boerboel is a large, mastiff breed of dog which is originally from South Africa. The word "Boerboel" derives from "boer", the Afrikaans/Dutch word for "farmer.” Boerboel, therefore, translates as either "farmer's dog" or "Boer's dog."

The height of a Boerboel ranges from 60 to 70 cm when fully grown, and the weight of an adult varies between 50 to 80 kg. For comparison purposes, a Boerboel is generally larger than a Rottweiler or a Doberman, but it is not as tall as a Great Dane. Coat colors include All shades of Red, Brown, Yellow and Brindle.
